Knowledge Sharing
On every expedition, Explore PNG invites a number of special hosts who hold a particular knowledge or skill that will contribute to our goals, support local community and give guests a deeper connection with the culture and environment they are surrounded by.
EDUCATION
Every guest with Explore PNG helps support our school fees program, the building of new medical outposts and education and sustainability programs which contribute to our rangers who work to educate and protect the private conservation areas we develop.

MWANEWA
MARINE SANCTUARY
FIVE ISLANDS IN THE CORAL SEA
Our private lease over this beautiful and remote set of five islands affords us the luxury of protecting the local reefs as a private protected marine reserve.
Locally, people would be guided by a fire on the beach of one of the five small islands, leading them to safety in bad weather. Around that same fire, they would share time, food and stories.
We want to continue this tradition whilst we protect the reef and the natural ecosystem, providing safe sanctuary, not just culturally but for the natural environment as well.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
MAKING CHANGE
One of the most Important contributions we can make is
to focus on our community and conservation projects.
Our school program means that every guest who stays with us helps to put kids in school. Our cottage industry project helps educate local industry and connect them to an international market, be it wood carvings, coconut oil or weaved shopping bags, and our health centre support sees funding for supplies and repairing run down buildings. It is ambitious and always in need of help, so we welcome you in joining us and getting involved in any way you can.
LOCALLY SOURCED FOOD
We believe in fostering relationships with local gardeners to produce the food we eat
Which is why we have spent the last decade meeting and greeting local clans to negotiate how we can both support them to grow food so we can buy their produce back when we have guests.
EDUCATIONAL & MEDICAL SUPPORT
Proceeds mostly go to schools and medical services for the local community
Education is so much more than asking guests to bring colouring pencils for the kids, we want to create real change to promote long-lasting education programs by building skills and capacities of teachers and students alike. Through the revenue generated from having guests (you!), personal and business donations & support we can make a massive and enduring impact on the health of the locals too. A little can go a very long way to improve birthing centres, boost infection control, sanitation and ensure medical supplies are appropriate to keep people safe on the islands.
